Ski Trip
The Annual Invicta Grammar School Ski trip ran from 13 to 21 April this year and it was as good as it has ever been! The trip was in Austria skiing from Alpendorf, about an hour from Salzburg, the birth place of Mozart. As it was so near to the end of the skiing season we were blessed with glorious sunshine all week. This did, however, bring some skiing challenges. In the morning the snow was crisp and compact but by the afternoon it was rather sticky and lumpy. The conditions were challenging for everyone as there was such a variation from the start of the day to the end of the day. Even with this additional challenge, our students were all still able to make really good progress. Whether they were a seasoned pro or a complete beginner, everyone was able to improve their skiing. By the end of the week every single group had managed to ski over to the next resort of Wagrain, from where we had started in Alpendorf. This was a real achievement for those that had not skied before and they should all be really proud of themselves.
Throughout the week, it was lovely to see students from different year groups getting along. Due to ski groups being split by ability, there was a mixture of ages within most groups. The students relished the chance to make friends with students from different year groups and they were all able to share experiences and build new friendships. At the final award ceremony, it was really lovely to see the students celebrate one another’s successes. On the penultimate day of skiing, all students took part in a speed competition with winners from each group being identified. The winners of each group were as follows:
Andrew’s group: Demi
Andy’s group: Lucy
Matt’s group: Amelia
Rhys’s group: Daisy and Shinade
Bibi’s group: Charlotte and Natasha Jones
During the week of skiing, we were really fortunate to be in a terrific hotel as well. Hotel Post was just right with fantastic food and wonderful rooms. IBT, our Tour Operator, ensured that we had everything else that we needed and Dovers Coaches were also brilliant so we were well looked after all week. A great week was enjoyed by all!
