'Set Your Hands Free Campaign'
Mr Ehren and the Digital Leaders sent these reports in the weeks leading upto the 'Set Your Hands Free Campaign'.
‘With the Set Your Hands Free campaign all set to begin in just over a week we hope that everyone is fully prepared for the detox. It looks set to be a revealing week in terms of how much some individual use and rely on their digital and mobile devices! Hopefully parents, staff and students will all get involved and do something different with the time gained. In the week beginning Monday 14, May, the “witness”/sponsorship cards will be in registers for Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12. They will be available for Year 11 and 13 students from the relevant year group office. Any sponsorship raised from taking part in the Set Your Hands Free campaign will be donated to the Medway Youth Trust (www.themytrust.org) who do huge amounts of work in our local communities.’
Set Your Hands Free from Monday!
'So it is finally upon us, not just the final week of term but the week where everyone is challenged to step away from their digital and mobile devices. The Set Your Hands Free week is running from Monday, 21 to Friday, 25 May. During this week staff will be asked to set homework that will not require the use of digital technology. On the Friday of this week staff are being challenged to teach as much as they can without using any digital technology at all. This means no e-mails for staff as well so any communications will need to be via telephone or in person. Please ensure that you do not send any attendance or time sensitive emails on Friday as these will not be actioned until Monday. We hope that you are all set to get involved. Now that the witness/sponsorship cards have been given to students it would be terrific to raise some much needed money for a local community based charity in the form of Medway Youth Trust (www.themytrsut.org).
We would also love to see as many parents involved with the scheme as research shows that turning mobiles off at 10pm will lead to being happier as reported in the Kent Messenger.'
Thank you all in advance for getting involved and we look forward to hearing what everyone has been getting up to with all of the extra time they will have on their hands!
'Here we are then! It is the end of the Set Your Hands Free week. We all survived a week without any digital or mobile devices… didn’t we? I am sure it has been a real challenge for some but also a week that will have allowed everyone some time to reflect on how much digital technology is used. It has been a terrific week with lots of individuals getting involved in this initiative. They have really challenged themselves to move away from their digital and mobile devices! All money raised by individuals taking part in this week should be given in to the finance department after the half term holiday. Money raised will be donated to the Medway Youth Trust. I would like to thank everyone for getting involved in supporting this week and it would be absolutely fantastic if the new found habits could continue into the half term holiday! Have a wonderful break away from school and digital technology…'
