Year 5 Familiarisation Workshop
On Tuesday, 16 January, Invicta hosted the Year 5 Computer Science Workshop. For this event 25 Year 5 students came to Invicta for a wonderful code breaking workshop supported by the IGS Digital Leaders This was a fun and engaging workshop created by Mrs Le Sbirel and was almost as much fun as the digital leaders! Firstly, students were welcomed with a LightBot activity, which got their brains in gear for the hour ahead. They were put in groups and were all given a code breaking kit and a locked box with a prize inside! They had to break lots of codes written in different code languages. During the workshop they participated in a number of fun puzzles and challenges including deciphering a Morse code message and a Caesar Cipher message. This was all done in order to find a key which had been placed in a room around the school. More puzzles would reveal the location of the key in the room which would then open a box. Delicious prizes were given to those who were successful. All of the students thoroughly enjoyed the activities created by Mrs Le Sbirel and loved trying out LightBot on the computers. Everyone involved thought it was a great workshop and the Digital Leaders all really enjoyed being involved. Thank you to Mrs Le Sbirel for taking the workshop and the Digital Leaders and Year 9 student volunteers who helped out.
The Digital Leaders initiative was set up at Invicta in order to help those who use technology in school and to teach people the advantages of digital resources in lessons. We would like to thank Mrs Le Sbirel for organising this and to Miss Fenson and Mr Ehren for supervising the activities.
