Model UN Conference
On Saturday, 4 November, ten Year 13 students travelled to Hertford to participate in a Model United Nations Conference at Richard Hale School. Representing the delegations of Turkey and Syria, we were divided up into 5 UN Committees: Security Council, Political, Ecology and Environment, Human Rights, and Disarmament. The delegates had to question resolutions and pose amendments from the points of view of Turkey and Syria.
It was a very enjoyable day and gave us great insight into not only how the UN works, but also the difficulties it faces in reaching compromises between member states! Special recognition went to Yazmin Taylor who received the Ingenuity Award in the Disarmament Council for presenting creative solutions, and Emily Godon who won the Angel Award for demonstrating moral integrity in the Security Council.
The students would like to thank Miss Laming and Miss Howard for organising the event, as well as Mr Perry for driving us there and back. For aspiring politicians and diplomats, this was a very valuable experience and is fantastic preparation for our trip to Geneva in January for the FERMUN Conference.
